Ubisoft Confirms Live-Action Far Cry Series With FX
A New Game Franchise Steps Into Television
Video game adaptations continue to expand across film and television as studios turn to established franchises with strong worlds and built-in audiences. The latest to enter the spotlight is Ubisoft’s Far Cry, one of the publisher’s most recognisable open-world properties.
After years of speculation, Ubisoft has formally announced that Far Cry is being adapted into a live-action series.
A High-Profile Creative Team
The series is backed by FX, a network with a reputation for prestige dramas and bold storytelling. Ubisoft has secured an impressive creative lineup for the adaptation.
Noah Hawley, known for Fargo and Alien: Earth, will serve as a key creative force, while Rob McElhenney, creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and a producer on Welcome to Wrexham, will also take part. McElhenney is set to appear on screen as well, adding a surprising element to the casting.

An Anthology Structure Inspired by the Games
One of the defining characteristics of the Far Cry franchise is that each game presents a self-contained story with a new setting and a new antagonist. FX and Ubisoft will mirror this structure in the television adaptation.
The series will be produced as an anthology, with each season introducing a new cast, a different location, and a standalone narrative.
Despite the changing environments and characters, the creative team intends to anchor every season with themes familiar to Far Cry players. These include the exploration of chaos, the breakdown of order, and the extremes of human morality.
Where You Can Watch It
The series will stream on Hulu for audiences in the United States, with Disney+ carrying the show internationally. Ubisoft has reassured fans that the adaptation is entirely under its control, avoiding involvement from filmmakers associated with earlier and widely criticised game adaptations. At this stage, neither Ubisoft nor FX have disclosed a release window.
