With expenses going up as the world continues to be in a state of uncertainty, it is always nice to get something free. For gamers looking for a hero shooter to sink their teeth into, NetEase Games and Bad Guitar Studio have just the thing for you in FragPunk, now available on PC.

A free-to-play hero shooter that combines adrenaline-pumping first-person shooting action with a new Shard Card system, which allows players to rewrite the game’s rules in real-time, Fragpunk is trying to change the perception of the genre.

In a similar vein to Friends vs Friends, FragPunk’s Shard Cards are items the players can activate mid-round to grant themselves and their teammates unique abilities like increased movement speed, a higher fire rate, or even deployable cover. The cards can also bestow detrimental disadvantages onto the enemy team, like increasing their heads’ sizes for easy critical damage.

The game also features 13 playable characters, known as Lancers. Each has unique skills, personalities, voice lines, and designs, allowing players to cater to their preferred playstyle and aesthetic.

In addition to the Lancers, FragPunk also offers 150 Shard Cards, seven  Shard Clash Maps, and a myriad of game modes on launch. Players can expect a steady flow of content, as new playable characters and cards will be released alongside every new chapter.

The new Lancer introduced this season is Chum, a sentient robot made of stone whose abilities center around control tactics. His in-game companion, Chomper, can turn into different kinds of bombs, shaking up encounters and disorienting enemies by forcing them to change their method of approach mid-round.

To celebrate the launch, players will be granted over 130 free rewards, including a Blue-and-White Porcelain skin for every gun in the game, in addition to in-game currency, sticker packs, and charms. FragPunk will be conducting a giveaway of 1000 free lifetime battle passes, which, upon activation, give the player every season’s battle pass for free for the entirety of the game’s life cycle. NetEase Games is also hosting a contest from March 7 to June 7 for fans to submit their designs for Shard Cards, the best of which will eventually be added to the game.

FragPunk is now free-to-play on PC through Steam and Epic Games Store, and eventually, versions for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
