Assassin’s Creed Hexe Director Clint Hocking Departs Ubisoft Amid Ongoing Restructuring

Clint Hocking leaves Ubisoft and steps down as Creative Director of Assassin’s Creed HEXE. Jean Guesdon takes over leadership at Vantage Studios.

Clint Hocking Departs Ubisoft

Ubisoft has confirmed the departure of Clint Hocking, one of its most prominent creative figures and the Creative Director behind Assassin’s Creed Hexe.

As reported by VGC, the exit comes amid Ubisoft’s broader restructuring efforts, which have seen the company reorganise development under its new model, particularly Vantage Studios. While the publisher continues to push forward with major franchise entries, Hocking’s departure marks a significant creative shift, with Benoit Richer recently joining as Game Director.

No official reason has been provided for his exit.

What This Means for Assassin’s Creed Hexe

Hocking had been leading Assassin’s Creed Hexe, one of the more mysterious and tonally distinct projects within the franchise’s pipeline. Ubisoft has repeatedly positioned it as a departure from the traditional Assassin’s Creed structure, promising a darker, more unconventional direction.

Losing a creative director during active development inevitably raises questions about continuity. While it is unclear how far along Hexe is in production, leadership changes at this stage can influence tone, pacing and overall vision.

Ubisoft has appointed Jean Guesdon to step into a broader leadership role within the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Guesdon previously directed Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, two of the series’ most critically successful entries.

A Broader Signal for Ubisoft

Hocking’s resume includes high-profile projects such as Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Far Cry 2, and Watch Dogs: Legion. His departure removes a veteran voice with a history of shaping Ubisoft’s experimental and systemic design philosophy.

At a time when Ubisoft is aggressively developing multiple Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry titles, creative stability is crucial. Leadership turnover during restructuring can either signal a recalibration of direction or a response to internal shifts in strategy.

For now, Ubisoft maintains that development continues as planned. However, the true impact of Hocking’s departure on Assassin’s Creed Hexe will likely only become clear once the project is formally unveiled.
