A Veteran Takes the Helm of Assassin’s Creed Hexe
As one of Ubisoft’s core franchises, Assassin’s Creed is never far from the spotlight. While attention remains divided between Assassin’s Creed Shadows and long-rumoured projects like a potential Black Flag remake, Ubisoft is quietly advancing another major entry.
Assassin’s Creed Hexe, first teased several years ago through a logo reveal, is beginning to take clearer shape behind the scenes. Although it remains one of the franchise’s most secretive projects, Ubisoft has confirmed a significant leadership appointment, signalling steady progress.
Benoit Richer Confirmed as Game Director
Ubisoft has confirmed that Benoit Richer, a veteran developer with deep roots across multiple AAA studios, will direct Assassin’s Creed Hexe. This game is positioned as a mainline Assassin’s Creed title following Shadows, with development led by Ubisoft Montreal.
Set in the 16th century and centred on witch hunts, Hexe is expected to explore darker historical themes than recent entries, though Ubisoft has yet to elaborate on how these ideas will translate into gameplay.
A Career Built on Large-Scale Action Games
Richer’s career spans several major publishers and franchises. During his earlier tenure at Ubisoft, he contributed to projects including Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. He later joined EA, where he worked as Level Design Director on Army of Two: The 40th Day.

His most prominent role was as Game Director at WB Games Montreal on Batman: Arkham Origins. While the title launched to a mixed reception, it has since been reassessed more favourably for its narrative focus and boss encounters.
Richer returned to Ubisoft in 2017 and was involved in multiple projects, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, where he served as Co-Development Game Director. According to his professional profile, he has now formally taken on the role of Game Director for Assassin’s Creed Hexe.
What We Still Do Not Know
Despite the confirmation, the game remains largely under wraps. Ubisoft has not shared details on its gameplay structure, systems, or how it may differ mechanically from recent Assassin’s Creed titles.
What is clear is that Ubisoft has placed Hexe under the guidance of a director experienced in handling narrative-driven action games at scale. For now, that alone suggests the project is being treated as a significant chapter in the franchise’s future.
