Ubisoft Reveals Avatar Expansion – From the Ashes

Ubisoft has announced From the Ashes, a significant expansion for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, launching on December 19 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Amazon Luna, and Ubisoft+. The release date coincides with the premiere of the film Avatar: Fire and Ash, tying the expansion into the broader Avatar universe.

A Darker Tale on the Western Frontier

Developed by Massive Entertainment in partnership with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney, From the Ashes introduces players to So’lek, a battle-hardened Na’vi warrior from the Trr’ong clan. After being ambushed by the RDA and their new allies, the ruthless Ash clan, So’lek awakens to find his world in flames and his Sarentu family scattered. Driven by grief and vengeance, his journey blends survival with deeply personal stakes.

Creative Director Omar Bouali said the team wanted to deliver a “darker, more personal story” that mixes first- and third-person gameplay with new combat mechanics, designed to heighten both emotional and tactical tension.

Expanding the Avatar Universe

The expansion coincides with Avatar: Fire and Ash, the next film exploring Pandora’s darker corners and introducing the Ash People. Joshua Izzo, Executive Vice President of Franchise Development at Lightstorm Entertainment, described From the Ashes as an opportunity for fans to experience untold stories through interactive storytelling.

Disney & Pixar Games VP Luigi Priore added that the expansion reflects ongoing efforts to collaborate on original narratives set within the Avatar universe.

Editions and Bonus Content

The expansion will be available as a standalone purchase for owners of the base game or bundled in the new From the Ashes Edition, which includes the main game, the expansion, and exclusive “Floating Mountains Bonus Content” — three banshee colour patterns inspired by the Valley of Mo’ara. Players who preorder the expansion or buy the bundle will receive the bonus content automatically.

Meanwhile, the base game will also receive a third-person update and New Game+ mode on December 5, addressing two of the community’s most requested features.
