Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Welcomes Third-Person Mode This December

Ubisoft and Massive will introduce a third-person mode for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in early December 2025.

Entrusted with the development of not just one but at least two video games tied to a massive film franchise, Massive Entertainment’s track record thus far has garnered mixed reactions. One of the most common criticisms levelled at Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was its first-person perspective, which some players found unappealing. However, there’s good news on the horizon: a long-requested solution is finally coming in the next major update.

To coincide with the hype surrounding the release of Avatar 3: Fire and Ash, which is scheduled to hit theatres on December 19, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment are preparing a substantial update for Frontiers of Pandora, launching on December 5.

What’s New in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora?

This upcoming update will bring two significant additions to the game. The first is the highly anticipated New Game+ mode. Players who have completed the main campaign will now be able to replay the game with their existing inventory and a more complete skill set. However, don’t expect an easy ride. Enemies will scale in difficulty to match your enhanced capabilities, promising a more intense and rewarding gameplay experience.

The second and arguably most impactful addition is the arrival of a third-person mode. This new perspective will allow players to fully immerse themselves in the breathtaking beauty of Pandora while also watching their custom Na’vi character in action. For players who previously found the first-person view disorienting or limiting, this feature will be a game-changer.

Ubisoft and Massive are putting extra care into ensuring the new mode feels seamless, with polished camera work, smooth character animations, and intuitive controls. Impressively, switching between first-person and third-person perspectives won’t require navigating through menus, you’ll be able to toggle the view with a single button press.

With this update, Ubisoft aims to address long-standing player concerns and expand the game’s appeal to a broader audience. For many, this could be the perfect opportunity to finally dive into Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, just in time for the next cinematic chapter of James Cameron’s sci-fi epic.
