Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Brings the Four Nations to Life
A Long-Awaited Return to the Avatar Universe
For years, fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra have wondered why one of animation’s richest worlds never received a game worthy of its potential. While James Cameron’s Avatar has been given Ubisoft’s AAA treatment, Nickelodeon’s beloved bending saga remained largely untapped — until now.
Gameplay Group has officially revealed Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, a hand-drawn 2D fighter inspired directly by the animation style of the original series. The debut trailer showcases fluid bending animations, dynamic movement, and elemental attacks that channel each character’s personality and fighting philosophy.
Bending Battles and Signature Styles
At launch, the game will feature 12 playable characters drawn from across both Avatar timelines, with post-launch content planned through a Season Mode. Fighters can call upon support characters mid-battle, influencing their techniques and enhancing elemental combos — from firebending chains to earth-shattering counters.

Every bending discipline is designed to feel distinct. Waterbenders can redirect momentum with flowing motion, Airbenders rely on speed and positioning, while Firebenders unleash explosive offence at close range. The precision of the animation — entirely hand-drawn — pays tribute to Studio Mir’s legacy while translating bending into readable, competitive gameplay.
A New Story in the Avatar Universe
Beyond versus play, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will also include a single-player story campaign featuring an original narrative set between The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. The campaign will explore new conflicts between the nations while introducing original benders to the franchise, expanding the world without contradicting its canon.
While Gameplay Group has yet to detail its competitive features or online structure, early impressions have been overwhelmingly positive, with fans praising the game’s authenticity and art direction. If the final product can match its visual promise, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game could finally deliver what fans have waited nearly two decades for: a bending brawl worthy of the Avatar name.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is set to launch in Summer 2026 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
