Bandai Namco Unveils Dragon Ball Project AGE 1000
Few franchises in entertainment carry the same weight as Dragon Ball, a name synonymous with high-speed combat, explosive energy clashes, and decades of cultural impact. From early console generations to modern platforms, Dragon Ball games have remained a constant presence, evolving alongside the medium itself.
Now, after previously teasing that a major new project was in development, Bandai Namco has officially pulled back the curtain on its next Dragon Ball title. The project, currently known by the codename Dragon Ball: Project AGE 1000, signals a deliberate shift away from retreading familiar ground.
Revealed at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri Event
Project AGE 1000 was formally introduced during the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event in Japan. Bandai Namco debuted a short teaser at the show’s opening, and while the teaser itself was brief and intentionally opaque, its presence at a major fan-focused event underscored the announcement’s significance.
Rather than positioning this as a minor spin-off, Bandai Namco framed this upcoming project as a cornerstone title for the franchise’s future.
Years in the Making and Rooted in Toriyama’s Legacy
According to Bandai Namco, Dragon Ball: Project AGE 1000 has been in development for approximately six to seven years, including early concept work. That unusually long timeline suggests a project that has been carefully planned rather than rushed to market.
Crucially, the game will still feature character designs created by the late Akira Toriyama. Among them is an original character who appears to serve as the story’s central protagonist, reinforcing the idea that this next entry is designed to expand the Dragon Ball universe rather than revisit existing arcs.
The inclusion of Toriyama’s designs adds emotional and creative weight to the project, especially given its ambition to chart new territory.
A Story Set 200 Years After Dragon Ball
One of the few concrete details confirmed so far is the game’s timeline. Dragon Ball: Project AGE 1000 is set roughly 200 years after the conclusion of the main storyline.
Beyond that, Bandai Namco has remained deliberately quiet. The game’s final title format, genre, gameplay structure, and platforms have not yet been disclosed. Whether the game will take the form of an action RPG, fighting game, or something entirely new remains an open question.
What is clear is that the setting allows the developers to explore a world shaped by Dragon Ball’s legacy rather than being constrained by it.

Full Reveal Planned for 2026, Targeting a 2027 Release
Bandai Namco has confirmed that a full reveal will happen during Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026. The event is scheduled to take place on April 18 and April 19 at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California.
That showcase is expected to provide concrete details on gameplay, platforms, and the game’s official title, giving fans their first real sense of how this future era of Dragon Ball will play.
Dragon Ball: Project AGE 1000 is currently planned for release in 2027. No platforms have been announced at this stage, suggesting Bandai Namco is still finalising its launch strategy.
