EA Officially Unveils Battlefield REDSEC, a Free-to-Play Battle Royale Spin-Off
After months of leaks, rumours, and datamined discoveries, EA and Battlefield Studios have finally lifted the curtain on their long-rumoured Battlefield 6 spin-off — introducing Battlefield REDSEC, a new free-to-play battle royale experience set within the Battlefield universe.
A New Take on the Formula
In a short announcement teaser posted on social media, EA showcased snippets of massive firefights, collapsing skyscrapers, and sweeping explosions across densely populated urban landscapes. While the battle royale genre has evolved significantly since its heyday, EA says REDSEC will stand out by leveraging the signature features that define Battlefield.
According to the developers, Battlefield REDSEC will include:
- Dynamic destruction systems, letting players reshape the battlefield mid-fight.
- A class-based character system for varied team compositions and strategy.
- Massive 100-player matches, blending squad-based tactics with large-scale warfare.
While EA hasn’t yet revealed the playable maps or the game’s narrative context, the studio has promised a “true Battlefield experience reimagined for the competitive survival format.”
Launching October 28, 2025
The official Battlefield account confirmed that REDSEC will launch today, October 28, coinciding with the start of Battlefield 6 Season 1. This timing appears designed to capitalise on renewed franchise momentum following Battlefield 6’s successful rebound earlier this year.
The game will be free to play, though EA has not detailed its monetisation model. REDSEC will exist as a standalone client, so there will be no confusion over the paid premium product.
What We Know — and What We Don’t
So far, no technical specifications, file size information, or gameplay previews have been released. EA has also remained tight-lipped about progression systems and crossplay support.
Still, the publisher seems confident that REDSEC will expand Battlefield’s reach and bring a new audience into its ecosystem, a bold move at a time when the battle royale genre is increasingly competitive.
For now, fans can expect more details to drop in the coming weeks as EA begins its marketing campaign ahead of launch. Whether Battlefield REDSEC can carve out its place alongside giants like Warzone and Apex Legends remains to be seen, but one thing’s certain: Battlefield isn’t done experimenting yet.
