Brigandine Abyss Returns the Classic Hex Strategy Series to PS5 in 2026

Brigandine Abyss Announced for PS5 at State of Play

The Brigandine series is returning to PlayStation. Revealed during the latest State of Play broadcast, Brigandine Abyss from Happinet Corporation marks the next chapter in the long-running fantasy strategy RPG franchise, with a planned release on PlayStation 5 in 2026.

The original game debuted on the first PlayStation in 1998, establishing itself as a hex-based tactical RPG built around territorial warfare and monster-led armies. Six years after Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia, the series once again sets its sights on large-scale fantasy conflict.

Six Factions, One Continent in Crisis

Brigandine Abyss unfolds on the continent of Meltitea, where a powerful empire seeks total domination. Players will choose one of six protagonists, each leading their own faction in resistance against the looming threat.

As in previous entries, the player acts as the ruler of a chosen nation, shaping political events while directing armies across the map. Strategic deployment of knights and monsters remains central, with hex-based battles determining territorial control and the future of the continent.

Beyond the six main storylines, the game features optional side quests tied to all 24 factions across Meltitea. Combined, these campaigns promise more than 200 hours of content, positioning Abyss as one of the series’ most expansive entries to date.

Classic Hex Combat With New Systems

Series staples return, including hex grid battlefields, RPG-style progression, and a vast roster of over 100 units. Each unit carries distinct skills, elemental affinities, and traits that influence combat outcomes.

While familiar systems anchor the experience, the development team has confirmed the addition of new mechanics, though specific details remain under wraps. Visually, Brigandine Abyss shifts to fully realised 3D battlefields, aiming to enhance immersion while preserving the franchise’s strategic depth.

Brigandine Abyss Gameplay

Producer Masaru Saito described the new title as accessible even to newcomers, noting that each Brigandine entry features its own setting and characters. According to Saito, the team has invested significant care in shaping this chapter, particularly as it introduces a new lineup of developments for the series.

Brigandine Abyss is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 in 2026. An exact release date has yet to be confirmed, with further updates expected in the months ahead.
