Marathon Enters a Crowded but Proven PvPvE Space
The breakout success of Arc Raiders has reinforced the idea that premium extraction shooters still have room to grow, provided the execution is confident and distinct. Strong systems, clear identity, and long-term support have become essential in a genre that is no longer niche.
This is the same competitive space Marathon is aiming to enter. Developed by Bungie and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Marathon stands out visually, leaning into a bold, stylised aesthetic that immediately distinguishes it from more grounded genre peers.
Following a previous delay that left its launch window uncertain, Bungie has now confirmed when players can finally expect to step into its high-risk PvPvE sandbox.
Release Date and Pre-Orders Now Confirmed
Alongside the release of a new trailer and the opening of pre-orders, Bungie and Sony have officially confirmed the game’s launch date. The game is scheduled to release on March 5.
Marathon will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X| SS, and PC. This multi-platform release underlines Sony’s continued willingness to push selected live service titles beyond its own ecosystem, particularly when long-term player population is critical to success.
Pre-orders are now live across supported platforms, with multiple editions available depending on region and storefront.
Collector’s Edition & Limited Edition Hardware Details Revealed
For players and collectors looking for a premium offering, Bungie has announced a Collector’s Edition for PlayStation 5 and PC. Priced at US$229.99, the Collector’s Edition focuses heavily on physical memorabilia rather than digital bonuses.

The package includes a 1:6 scale Thief statue, a Silkworm miniature collectible, an iron-on embroidered patch, six art postcards, premium hexagon-themed packaging, a lenticular poster, and a dedicated display box. Bungie is also offering a Collector’s Edition without a game code at a lower price, aimed at collectors who may already own the game digitally.
This approach mirrors a growing industry trend where physical editions prioritise display value over redundancy.
Sony is also supporting the launch with a slate of limited-edition hardware. A Marathon-themed DualSense controller will be available on release day, priced at US$84.99, featuring a design inspired by the game’s distinctive visual language.

In addition, Sony has announced the Limited Edition Pulse Elite wireless headset, priced at US$169.99. However, this headset will be exclusive to the United States and available only through the PlayStation Direct Store, limiting its global accessibility.
These hardware tie-ins reinforce Sony’s broader push to position Marathon as a flagship live service release.
Official Launch Date Locked In
With the release date now confirmed, Marathon is officially set to launch on March 5. After a prolonged period of limited updates, this confirmation provides much-needed clarity for players watching Bungie’s next major evolution closely.
Whether Marathon can carve out a lasting foothold in the increasingly competitive extraction shooter market remains to be seen, but its combination of premium positioning, strong visual identity, and full platform coverage gives it a solid foundation heading into launch.
