It is always wondrous to see where developers get their ideas from when it comes to crafting unique experiences, and Surgent Studios is certainly doing that with Dead Take. The psychological horror game that dives deep into the dark secrets of the glitzy Hollywood entertainment scene is sure to intrigue, and it will do so now with the star power of Neil Newbon and Ben Starr as its leads.
Newbon has graced players’ screens in the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Resident Evil Village, while Starr has made waves with roles in Final Fantasy XVI and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The former will play Chase Lowry, and the latter is taking on the role of Vinny Monroe.
While the teaser trailer doesn’t tell us much, it would seem that the two are actors vying for the same role of Willie. Considering the premise of the game, it is likely that there is no happy ending here, and that will play into the horror that awaits in Dead Take.
Real Actors, Real Horror in Dead Take
This twisted horror game isn’t coming without a strong foundation. Creative director Abubakar Salim is a star actor himself, and this meant being able to lend an authentic lens into the subject matter.
“As actors in games and beyond, Neil, Ben and I have leaned on each other through some extremely gruelling times. In those moments, we exchanged some of the horror stories that built the foundations of this game,” said Salim.

“Not only do they bring considerable talent to the project, but they also helped create a space in which we could all be truly raw and honest. I can’t wait for you to see the calibre of their performances in Dead Take.”
As players try their best to find a missing friend during a lavish Hollywood party, the only chance of survival is to solve escape-room-style puzzles and splice together videos they find along the way to uncover the truth.
Dead Take is set to launch on PC sometime in 2025.
