PS5 Update Adds Multi-Device DualSense Pairing and Power Saver Mode
Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced via a blog post a new PS5 system update rolling out globally from tomorrow, bringing enhanced controller flexibility and a sustainability-focused feature called Power Saver.
DualSense Pairing Across Multiple Devices
The update allows DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers to be paired with up to four devices simultaneously, including PC, Mac, and mobile devices, in addition to the PS5 itself. Players will now be able to switch between platforms without repeatedly re-pairing their controller.
Device slots can be assigned using button combinations: for example, Triangle + PS button could be used for PS5, while Cross + PS button connects to a PC. Once registered, switching requires only a three-second button press, with controller lights indicating which device is active. This change makes it easier for those who game across multiple platforms, whether through Remote Play on mobile or traditional PC gaming.

How to Switch Devices
Once a device is registered on your controller, you can switch between paired devices by pressing the PS button and the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square) corresponding to a slot. You can do this when the controller is turned on or off.
- Turn on the device you want to connect to.
- Press and hold one of the action buttons and the PS button for about 3 seconds. When the light bar and player indicator blink, release both buttons. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.
Slot number | Button used | Player indicator lights | Connected Device Examples |
Slot 1 | PS button and Triangle button | One light on | PS5 |
Slot 2 | PS button and Circle button | Two lights on | PS5 Pro |
Slot 3 | PS button and Cross button | Three lights on | PC |
Slot 4 | PS button and Square button | Four lights on | iPhone |
Power Saver for Games

Another significant feature in the update is Power Saver, a new mode designed to reduce power consumption in supported PS5 titles. When enabled, the setting allows games to scale back performance, contributing to Sony’s ‘Road to Zero’ plan to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
Future updates for major games, including Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yōtei, will add support for Power Saver, with more titles expected over time. If disabled, or if a game does not yet support the feature, performance remains unaffected.
Sony notes that this addition reflects its ongoing efforts to merge cutting-edge gaming with environmental responsibility, offering players the choice to balance performance with sustainability.
The update has begun deploying worldwide. Players can access the new features under system settings once installed.
