A Free Major Update
Funcom has announced the first major content expansion for Dune: Awakening, the open-world survival MMO inspired by Frank Herbert’s classic novels and Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster films.
The free Chapter 2 update continues the story from Act 3, pushing players into a new investigation of brutal murders tied to Arrakis’ ancient past. The update introduces dynamic encounters, new contracts, and a re-customisation system for player characters.
Fresh cosmetic additions, including new hairstyles and tattoos, allow players to personalise their explorers even further, while new items and world events add greater variety to the desert survival experience.
Lost Harvest DLC – A Standalone Storyline
Released alongside the free update is the Lost Harvest DLC, included as part of the Season Pass or available as a standalone purchase. This paid expansion introduces a darker, standalone narrative rooted deep in the lore of Dune.
Players will encounter new decorations, cosmetic armour sets and weapons, fresh swatches, and the quirky yet functional treadwheel vehicle, an alternative to the sandbike with unique handling and animations. The expansion also adds the Thumper emote and Dune Man building pieces to enrich both gameplay and settlement-building in Dune: Awakening.
A Free Weekend on Arrakis
If you haven’t yet tasted the spice, fret not. Starting September 11, players can dive into the game for free during the Dune: Awakening Free Weekend, which runs until September 15. For those ready to commit, the game will also be available at a 20% discount across Steam and third-party stores from September 11–22, marking its first-ever price drop.
Looking Ahead
The launch of Lost Harvest is only the beginning. Funcom confirmed that two more DLC packs are already planned as part of the Season Pass, each offering new areas, stories, and mechanics to keep the deserts of Arrakis evolving.
With Dune: Awakening now offering both a free story update and the start of its paid DLC roadmap, the survival MMO continues to expand its scope, giving players more reasons than ever to return to the sands of Arrakis.
