FromSoftware continues to solidify its reputation as one of the most consistent developers in the gaming industry, with a portfolio filled with critically acclaimed and commercially successful titles. Known for its mastery of the Souls formula, the studio has recently demonstrated that even a cooperative multiplayer experience based on the same concept can thrive in the modern gaming landscape. That success is embodied in Elden Ring Nightreign, the latest evolution of a growing universe.
In a recent announcement, FromSoftware revealed a remarkable milestone for both Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree and Nightreign. According to the studio, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion has now surpassed 10 million copies sold, while Nightreign has achieved an impressive 5 million units sold worldwide, a clear testament to the continued strength and relevance of the Elden Ring brand.
A New Way to Enjoy Elden Ring Nightreign
Alongside this announcement came exciting news for fans: Elden Ring: Nightreign is set to receive a highly requested new feature — a dedicated 2-player mode in the form of Duo Expeditions. While Nightreign was initially designed with solo and three-player co-op in mind, the upcoming update will introduce an option for two-player cooperative play, thereby expanding the game’s audience.
Though FromSoftware has not yet detailed how balancing will work for this new format compared to solo and trio modes, fans are eager to see how the studio handles the challenge.
This new 2-player mode will be available as part of a free update, Patch 1.02, scheduled to launch on July 30. In addition to the new multiplayer option, the update will also introduce refinements to the game’s user interface and enhance filtering systems for Relics, improving overall gameplay clarity and accessibility.
Elden Ring Nightreign is currently available on both consoles and PC, with regular content updates and patches continuing to support its growing player base.
