Gamescom 2025: Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy XIV Join Forces in Free Update

Two Worlds Collide Once Again

Capcom and Square Enix are joining forces to deliver another major crossover, officially unveiling a Monster Hunter Wilds x Final Fantasy XIV collaboration during Gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live. Ryozo Tsujimoto (Capcom) and Naoki Yoshida (Square Enix, aka Yoshi-P) took the stage together to reveal the highly anticipated partnership, sparking excitement across both communities.

This isn’t the first time the two franchises have crossed paths — but with both titles enjoying ongoing updates and live-service support, the collaboration looks set to be bigger and more ambitious than before.

Content Coming to Monster Hunter Wilds

Launching as part of Free Title Update 3 in late September 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds players can expect:

  • Chocobos as rideable mounts – bringing Final Fantasy’s beloved companions into the wild.
  • Omega Planetes boss fight – a new superboss encounter based on one of FFXIV’s most iconic raid bosses.

While the game has faced criticism over its PC performance, this crossover is expected to generate massive hype, drawing hunters back to the game for one of its most ambitious updates yet.

Content Coming to Final Fantasy XIV

Arriving in early October 2025, the RPG will also receive content inspired by Wilds:

  • New Trial: Guardian Arkveld – a powerful monster from Wilds, reimagined as a raid-style encounter.
  • Seikret as mounts – replacing traditional Chocobos for a fresh twist on traversal in the MMORPG.

Free Updates Across Both Games

Capcom and Square Enix confirmed that all collaboration content will be released as free updates, ensuring both player bases can dive in without additional cost. With crossover events like this, the two studios continue to celebrate their communities while blending worlds in surprising and exciting ways.

The crossover begins in September 2025 and continues into October, making it one of the most significant live-service events of the year.
