Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era Demo Brings Back Classic Strategy
A Legendary Series Returns
The Heroes of Might and Magic franchise is officially back in the spotlight. During Ubisoft’s Heroes of Might and Magic 30th Anniversary Celebration livestream, the publisher announced that a free demo for Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era is now available on Steam.
The demo marks the first hands-on look at the next major entry in the legendary strategy series, co-developed by Unfrozen and Hooded Horse, and published by Ubisoft. However, alongside the surprise release, Ubisoft also confirmed that the full version of Olden Era has been pushed to 2026 to allow for additional polish and balancing.
What’s in the Demo
Fans diving into the demo can explore four playable factions across three distinct modes — Classic, Single Hero Mode, and Arena. The build is currently single-player only, but the developers have confirmed that the full version will include multiplayer, additional factions, and a range of new modes designed to expand the tactical possibilities.

The Olden Era demo will also be part of Steam Next Fest, which kicks off on October 13, giving even more players the chance to experience its blend of traditional turn-based gameplay and modern refinements.
A Celebration of 30 Years
The announcement arrived as part of Ubisoft’s 30th Anniversary celebration stream for Heroes of Might and Magic, which included retrospectives, developer interviews, and a look back at how the series evolved from its 1995 debut into one of the genre’s most influential franchises.
While the Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era project introduces new systems and visual updates, it aims to preserve the core of what made the series iconic: deep strategic battles, layered faction design, and an unmistakable sense of fantasy adventure.
Early Access Launch Coming in 2026
Ubisoft confirmed that Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era will launch via Steam Early Access sometime in 2026, with the full release featuring expanded content and community feedback integration.
Fans can try the free demo now on Steam, and wishlist the title ahead of its full release.
