Larian Studios’ Final Farewell to Baldur’s Gate 3 is Another Gift

with the Massive Final Patch They’ve Released, Larian Studios Has Officially Bid Farewell to Baldur’s Gate 3.

In the realm of roleplaying games, the status of Larian Studios has forever been enshrined as one of the great proponents of the genre. The resounding success of Baldur’s Gate 3, which earned many Game of the Year awards from across the globe in recent years, stands as a clear testament to their craftsmanship. But now, the time has come for the studio to bid farewell to the Dungeons & Dragons-based title officially.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, Larian Studios had previously confirmed that they would no longer be involved with any future Baldur’s Gate projects. Instead, their focus will shift entirely to creating original games based on their intellectual properties, with not just one, but two mysterious new projects currently in development.

This farewell has now been formalised through the release of Patch 8, the final major update for Baldur’s Gate 3, which delivers a wealth of new content and improvements. As part of the goodbye, Larian also released an animated short film featuring several iconic characters from Baldur’s Gate 3, along with a cameo from the studio’s quirky CEO, Swen Vincke.

Patch 8 is now available, adding 12 new subclasses and even cross-play. Players can expect unique skills and gameplay mechanics that expand on what they already know, adding more freshness to the adventure. The addition of Photo Mode will make it possible for players to capture their best and worst moments alike too.

With the release of this massive final patch, Larian Studios has officially closed the book on Baldur’s Gate 3. There will be no further large-scale updates, narrative expansions, new storylines, characters, or companions in future patches. According to the studio, every story they wanted to tell has already been told. However, that doesn’t mean the game will be completely abandoned. Larian Studios has committed to continuing support in the form of bug fixes and minor updates to ensure players still enjoy a polished experience.

In saying goodbye to Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios turns a new page, one that is filled with anticipation for what comes next.
