However, rather than developing it in-house, the company has chosen to collaborate with ASUS to bring the device to life. The result is the ROG Xbox Ally, a Windows 11-based handheld gaming machine with a custom Xbox interface.
Much like previous iterations of the ROG Ally line, the handheld will come in two variants, with the higher-end version promising significantly better performance. However, if you’re considering purchasing one, be prepared to dig deep into your wallet.
Neither Microsoft nor ASUS has officially announced pricing for the ROG Xbox Ally, but a recent slip-up may have unintentionally revealed what consumers can expect. Spanish gaming outlet 3DJuegos was quick to spot the leak, which appears to have originated from ASUS itself.
How Much Does the ROG Xbox Ally Cost?
According to the leaked information, both versions of the ROG Xbox Ally were briefly listed with their respective prices. The standard model, the ROG Xbox Ally Z2, is reportedly set to retail for €599. Meanwhile, the more powerful variant, the ROG Xbox Ally Z2 Extreme Black, will carry a much steeper price tag of €899.
This blunder has thus prematurely exposed the price point of Microsoft’s upcoming handheld, sparking both excitement and concern within the gaming community.
If these prices hold through to the device’s expected release during the 2025 holiday season, the ROG Xbox Ally would officially become the most expensive piece of gaming hardware in the Xbox ecosystem, surpassing even the Xbox Series X.
Whether you choose to go for it depends on your needs, and while portability is a good thing, it comes at the expense of performance.
