Marvel Tōkon Adds The Amazing Guardians
Arc System Works has revealed a new team lineup for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, expanding the roster with The Amazing Guardians and confirming more story framing around its tournament structure. The reveal follows the earlier announcement of the Unbreakable X-Men team.
The Amazing Guardians lineup brings together Spider-Man, Ms Marvel, and Star-Lord, a combination that spans street-level heroics and cosmic swagger without leaning on the most obvious Guardians picks. The real surprise, though, is Peni Parker, who pilots the SP//dr mech and introduces a very different silhouette and toolset compared to the rest of the team.
Peni’s inclusion implies a kit built around gadgets and mechanised pressure rather than straight brawling. In a tag fighter context, that tends to translate into strong screen control options, setplay tools, and a distinct rhythm when paired with more conventional rushdown characters.
Arc System Works is also highlighting cultural specificity through bilingual dialogue and voice work reflecting Peni’s Japanese-American identity, which fits the studio’s broader habit of using presentation to define character flavour as much as move lists do.
Knowhere Stage and The Promoter Expand the Frame
Alongside the roster reveal, Arc System Works has shown a new stage set on Knowhere, a location familiar from the Guardians’ corner of Marvel. Stage reveals are usually cosmetic, but in a game like this, they also signal tone, the kind of spectacle Marvel Tōkon wants to foreground, and how wide the setting net will be cast.
The reveal also introduces an original character called The Promoter, whose real name is Xireha Awhina. Positioned as the host of a high-stakes tournament, The Promoter frames battles between heroes and villains as part of a broader contest tied to the fate of the world. That structure is familiar genre scaffolding, and should make things more interesting in the world of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is scheduled to launch on August 6 for PlayStation 5 and PC. With the roster still unfolding in themed reveals, the next few months will likely be defined by who else makes the cut and how Arc System Works balances fan favourites against deeper pulls like Peni.
