Masters of Albion Gets a Firm Release Date
22cans has officially confirmed that Masters of Albion will launch on April 22. The game will release exclusively on PC, and the good news for fans was accompanied by a release date trailer highlighting its blend of cosy creativity and high-stakes survival.
Led by industry veteran Peter Molyneux, Masters of Albion marks a major return to the god game genre, drawing heavily from the design philosophy behind classics such as Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, and Fable.
A Modern Take on the God Game
Masters of Albion is being developed by a team that includes Mark Healey, Russell Shaw, Iain Wright, and Kareem Ettouney, all of whom previously worked on defining titles in the genre. The result is a game that blends strategy, simulation, town management, and real-time defence into a single, flexible experience.
Players are given extraordinary freedom to shape Albion. During the day, the focus is on building, managing resources, and guiding the growth of towns and villages. At night, the tone shifts dramatically as hostile creatures emerge, forcing players to defend their settlements through planning, combat, and divine intervention.

Build, Create, or Destroy Albion
As a god, players can design every structure, manage and house workers, and freely customise buildings using paint, patterns, and embellishments. Construction is instant, with no timers or artificial restrictions, allowing experimentation and iteration without friction.
That creative freedom extends to Albion’s people. Players can inspire or punish them, possess heroes or animals directly, and manipulate the world with the God Hand, using powers such as lightning, fire, and physics-driven destruction. The game also allows players to step into the world itself, controlling heroes in real time, exploring underground caves, crafting equipment, and uncovering Albion’s forgotten history.
Daytime Creation, Nighttime Survival
When night falls, Albion becomes a dangerous place. Undead and monstrous creatures attack towns indiscriminately, testing how well players have prepared their defences. Players can build turrets, walls, and choke points, hire heroes to protect civilians, or directly intervene using god powers and real-time combat.
This day-night contrast sits at the heart of Masters of Albion’s core themes, balancing cosy creativity against chaos, and freedom of choice against consequence.
Peter Molyneux on His Return to the Genre
Speaking about the project, Molyneux described Masters of Albion as the culmination of his career, positioning it as a modern revival of the god game genre. He emphasised that the game is designed to give players true agency, whether they choose to nurture Albion into a golden age or plunge it back into darkness.
Masters of Albion launches on April 22 exclusively on PC via Steam. Players can wishlist the game now ahead of release.
