Bandai Namco Confirms Multiple Tales Projects — Including a Brand-New Mainline Entry
Few JRPG franchises have endured as gracefully as the Tales series. Since its 1995 debut, the long-running franchise has remained a defining part of Bandai Namco’s legacy, consistently evolving while preserving its trademark blend of heartfelt storytelling and fast-paced, action-driven combat.
Following the success of Tales of Arise, fans have wondered what’s next for the franchise. Now, series producer Yusuke Tomizawa has confirmed that the future is not only secure but busier than ever.
A New Mainline Game Is in the Works
In a new interview with Famitsu, Tomizawa revealed that multiple projects are currently in development — including a completely new mainline title. While still in the early stages, this next major chapter is described as a full-scale production that will take time before it’s ready for a public reveal.
Tomizawa declined to share specifics on the game’s setting, characters, or target platforms but hinted that the project aims to carry forward the emotional and thematic strengths that have long defined the series.
Tales of Xillia Remaster Leads the Charge
Bandai Namco’s near-term focus remains on its remaster pipeline. Following the official announcement of Tales of Xillia Remastered, Tomizawa confirmed that Tales of Xillia 2 Remastered is also in active development, with two additional remasters currently in production behind the scenes.
One of these unannounced titles is expected to be revealed soon, suggesting that Bandai Namco intends to keep the franchise’s legacy entries accessible to modern audiences while preparing for the next big leap forward.
Interestingly, Tomizawa noted that roughly 70% of total series sales now come from international markets. He clarified that this shift isn’t due to waning interest in Japan but rather the expanded reach of digital distribution and simultaneous worldwide launches — a trend that reflects the franchise’s evolution into a truly global property.
What’s Next for the Franchise
The immediate highlight for fans will be Tales of Xillia Remastered, launching October 31.
Beyond that, Bandai Namco has yet to provide release windows for the additional remasters or the new mainline entry, which is expected to surface sometime in 2026 or later.
With its mixture of legacy preservation and forward-looking development, the series continues to prove that it isn’t just part of Bandai Namco’s past but a vital part of its future.
