With the current state of things, the console wars are not really a thing anymore. PlayStation may still be focusing on its core ecosystem, with occasional forays into PC gaming, but Xbox has essentially evolved into a service that spans multiple devices. However, that is not to say Microsoft is leaving the console market just yet. In fact, a new agreement with AMD sees the company preparing for the “next generation of Xbox”.
In an announcement video, president Sarah Bond shared that the two companies are coming together to design and produce first-party devices and cloud, and that will also include future consoles for its family of players.
“At Xbox, our vision is for you to play the games you want, with the people you want, anywhere you want,” Bond shared. “That’s why we’re investing in our next-generation hardware lineup, across console, handheld, PC, cloud, and accessories.
“I am thrilled to share we’ve established a strategic multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices including our next-generation Xbox consoles, in your living room, and in your hands.”
“Together with AMD we’re advancing the state of art in gaming silicon to deliver the next generation of graphics innovation to unlock a deeper level of visual quality and immersive gameplay and player experiences enhanced with the power of AI, all while maintaining compatibility with your existing library of Xbox games,” she concluded.
This will see AMD contribute to various devices and AI-powered initiatives, and perhaps more importantly, “grounded in a platform designed for players, not tied to a single store or device, and fully compatible with your existing Xbox game library.”
In a sense, it seems nothing will change, and we can expect Microsoft to push on more fronts in the future when it comes to gaming under the famous green brand.
