When compared to what other consoles and the broader gaming ecosystem have been offering over the past decade, the GameChat feature that Nintendo is introducing for the Switch 2 might seem somewhat outdated. For starters, it is only accessible with a paid online subscription, but a newly discovered transcription accessibility option is well worth noting.
While the focus was predictably on the actual social experience you can have with your friends, another part of the GameChat feature was not prominently shown off. As shared by user OatmealDome on Bluesky, GameChat is confirmed to support a live subtitles or transcription feature.
This means the system will attempt to generate real-time transcripts of conversations happening during voice chats, with the added convenience of segmenting the text based on who is speaking. This functionality is set to make GameChat interactions much smoother and more accessible, especially if the action heats up.

Given the high-quality microphone technology it sports, like the clarity seen in its voice communication, there is a strong possibility that NVIDIA’s AI technology powers this functionality. However, as of the time of writing, Nintendo has not yet disclosed which languages will be supported by this live-caption feature.
It would be interesting to see how this service is rolled out in the different regions where the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch. The chances are, there will never be full support for all the major languages out there, since not even the Nintendo eShop has managed to be globally available to players to buy from
GameChat is not the only notable thing about the new console. There are also the Game-Key Cards to get your head around, as well as the useful option of limiting battery charging at a certain percentage to preserve the longevity.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release on June 5 across most major regions, with Southeast Asia to follow in the coming months.
