Viking Tactical RPG Sets Its February 2026 Release
Tripwire Presents and developer Arctic Hazard have confirmed that NORSE: Oath of Blood, their Viking era tactical RPG, will launch on February 3, 2026. To accompany the announcement, the studio released its first Developer Diary, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how the team is building a grounded historical epic set in Dark Age Norway.
The game will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Developer Diary Explores Motion Capture and Story Direction
The new video features core developers, actors, and writer Giles Kristian, who discuss the process of crafting a story driven tactical experience inspired by Viking sagas. The diary highlights the team’s use of motion capture to produce more convincing combat animation and to reinforce the emotional weight of the narrative.
The developers also touch on the challenge of telling a revenge story rooted in Viking tradition while avoiding fantasy embellishment, choosing instead to anchor NORSE: Oath of Blood in researched historical detail.
Demo Available Now
A public demo, released during last month’s Steam Next Fest, remains available on Steam. It introduces Gunnar, the young warrior at the centre of the story, and covers the opening moments of his quest to reclaim his clan’s honour after the murder of his father, Jarl Gripr, by the treacherous Steinarr Far Spear.
Players can experience the first tactical encounters, settlement building systems, and early narrative choices that shape Gunnar’s path forward.
A Turn-Based Tactical Epic Set in Dark Age Norway
NORSE: Oath of Blood blends tactical turn based combat with settlement building and clan management. Players rebuild Gunnar’s home, recruit allies, and form a warband capable of challenging rival clans.
The game’s world seeks to capture the harsh landscape and political tension of the period, emphasising strategy, resource management, and interpersonal alliances as much as battlefield decisions.
