Of Ash and Steel Launches on PC with Marker-Free Exploration and Classic RPG Spirit
A New Open World RPG Arrives for Fans of Discovery
TinyBuild and Fire & Frost have officially launched Of Ash and Steel, an open-world fantasy RPG that places exploration and personal agency at the centre of the experience. The game is now available on PC for players seeking a modern take on classic role-playing.
Rather than guiding players through a map of icons and objective trails, Of Ash and Steel removes quest markers entirely. The world of Grayshaft is designed to be explored intuitively, with its stories, secrets, and encounters uncovered through curiosity rather than direction.
This approach aims to recreate the sense of discovery associated with older RPGs while combining it with contemporary combat systems and character progression.
A Journey Shaped by Curiosity
Players step into the role of Tristan, a cartographer whose quiet life is disrupted by events that draw him across the vast island. The world is built as a place of danger and opportunity, where factions, characters, and hidden locations can dramatically alter Tristan’s path.
Each corner of Grayshaft holds its own micro stories. Some appear through random encounters, others through environmental clues or character dialogue. Fire & Frost aims to make the island feel alive, with outcomes tied to the player’s decisions and alliances rather than scripted sequences.
Combat, Professions, and Character Building
Of Ash and Steel emphasises combat flexibility. Players can train with a variety of weapon types, each with its own stance, rhythm, and upgrade path. Heavy two-handed weapons provide sweeping attacks and immense damage, while lighter weapons, such as rapiers, focus on mobility and bleed effects. One-handed options offer a balance between speed and force.
Skill trees and professions offer additional layers of progression. Crafting, survival skills, and specialist abilities all contribute to Tristan’s long-term capabilities. These systems give players freedom to craft a build that reflects how they choose to approach encounters across Grayshaft’s wilderness.
Arena Master Mode expands the combat focus further, offering a dedicated challenge environment where players can test their builds in tightly paced battles for rewards, experience, and recognition.
Factions and Allies Shape the Narrative
The game encourages players to build alliances that can significantly influence their journey. The Order of the Seven represents the path to knighthood, emphasising structure and honour. The Free Hunters offer a more wandering and morally flexible lifestyle. Guilds across the island present further choices tied to wealth or practical survival.

Every faction alters the opportunities available across the island, and narrative outcomes shift based on the alliances Tristan chooses to maintain.
Dialogue, Lore, and an Island Full of Stories
Fire & Frost highlights conversational depth as a key part of the experience. Characters across Grayshaft speak with their own histories, motivations, and local knowledge. Learning about the island’s myths and past events often reveals critical information that helps players approach quests in different ways in Of Ash and Steel.
Multiple quests offer more than one solution, with outcomes shaped by what the player discovers about each character or region.
Of Ash and Steel is now available on PC.
