P.T. — The Teaser That Redefined Horror
In 2014, P.T. (Playable Teaser) shocked the gaming world with its claustrophobic looping hallway and terrifying atmosphere. Created by Hideo Kojima at Konami as a preview for the now-cancelled Silent Hills, it became one of the most talked-about horror experiences ever released despite being only a demo.
The influence of P.T. has lingered for nearly a decade, inspiring horror developers across the globe and cementing itself as a cult classic.
Hideki Kamiya Wants It Back
Legendary Japanese game designer Hideki Kamiya has now added his voice to the call for the horror game’s return. In a recent post on his X account, the Okami creator and head of indie studio CLOVERS wrote that he would “love to see P.T. come back.”
If that proves impossible, Kamiya said he hopes Kojima will at least craft a new project in the same spirit. He even hinted at trying a loop-style horror game himself — though he admitted with some humour that he personally hates horror games.
Kojima’s Future in Horror?
Fans may not have to wait long to see what Kojima does next. His upcoming collaboration with Microsoft, Project OD, already teases unsettling visuals and ominous tones reminiscent of P.T.’s brand of fear.
Whether Kojima revisits the concept directly or Kamiya takes matters into his own hands, the dream of a true successor to that haunting hallway still burns brightly in the community.
