China’s growing ambition to establish itself as a major force in AAA game development is becoming harder to ignore. Following the tremendous global hype surrounding Black Myth: Wukong, several other titles have begun capturing the spotlight. Even recently released titles, such as Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, despite performance issues, have managed to attract significant attention from gamers. One of the most highly anticipated among these next-gen projects is none other than Phantom Blade Zero.
Developed by S-Game, Phantom Blade Zero continues to evolve with each new showing. Initially focusing on flashy boss battle showcases, the studio has now released a full 22-minute gameplay showcase that finally provides a deeper look into what the game has to offer.
Phantom Blade Zero Gameplay Showcase
One of the most important takeaways from this new footage is a clearer understanding of the game’s identity. Despite earlier comparisons to Souls games, Phantom Blade Zero appears to have carved out its own path. The protagonist, equipped with an array of switchable weapons, engages in combat that’s fluid, fast-paced, and acrobatic, more reminiscent of Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden.
Visually, the game is stunning. From the intricately designed environments to dramatic lighting effects, Phantom Blade Zero is shaping up to be a visual spectacle. What truly stands out, however, is the variety and elegance of the protagonist’s animations. The main character, Soul, transitions seamlessly between attacks in what appears to be a highly polished and responsive combat system.
The footage also features multiple boss battles, two of which have been confirmed by S-Game as optional secret bosses. This implies that it’s possible to complete the game without ever encountering them, adding layers of replayability and exploration. Interestingly, the gameplay shown was recorded on the Extreme difficulty level, which means enemies hit harder and faster. It is also reportedly available only after finishing the game at least once, which means only the best should consider testing themselves.
As of now, Phantom Blade Zero still does not have a confirmed release date. However, it is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and PC, with fans worldwide eagerly awaiting more information. With each reveal, S-Game continues to prove that Phantom Blade Zero is more than just another action title, it may be one of the most ambitious and polished projects to emerge from China’s growing AAA scene.
