Xbox’s Untapped Legacy
With Microsoft’s resources, many believe Xbox could dominate the industry—but its legacy is dotted with missed opportunities and dormant series that fans continue to ask about. During an interview with IGN Japan at Tokyo Game Show 2025, Phil Spencer acknowledged the demand, highlighting the classic franchises fans most want to see revived.
Four Fan-Favourite Franchises
Spencer revealed that the four most frequently requested titles are:
- Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360)
- Blue Dragon (Xbox 360)
- Crimson Skies (PC)
- MechAssault (Xbox)
The Japanese RPGs Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon were created by Mistwalker, the studio founded by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, who recently returned with Fantasian. On the other hand, Crimson Skies and MechAssault came from American developers, remembered for their innovative gameplay and distinctive settings.

No Promises Yet
Despite recognising the passion behind these requests, Spencer cautioned that fans should not expect immediate announcements. “It’s always great to hear what players care about,” he said, but stopped short of confirming any plans to revive these dormant franchises.
For now, these titles remain names on a community wish list rather than active projects. Still, Spencer’s comments suggest that the company is aware of the nostalgia factor—and the potential for bringing back classics to strengthen its portfolio.
A Wider TGS Conversation
Beyond dormant IPs, Spencer also spoke about the excitement surrounding Forza Horizon 6’s Japan setting and the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally handheld, launching in October 2025. Both reflect the company’s ongoing push into diverse markets and hardware, even as fans continue to look back at the franchises that first made the brand stand out.
