PlayStation Portal Update Brings PS5 Cloud Streaming & New Features in Select Countries

Cloud Streaming Officially Launches on PlayStation Portal, Expanding PS5 Game Access

Sony has officially rolled out Cloud Streaming for PlayStation 5 games on the PlayStation Portal, marking the device’s most significant update since its launch.

Starting November 6, PlayStation Plus Premium members in select regions can stream PS5 titles directly on their handheld device with no console connection required.

Stream PS5 Games from Your Library

The new update allows Premium-tier subscribers to stream select digital PS5 games from their own library or from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog.

At launch, supported titles include Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, and Resident Evil 4. More than a thousand compatible games are now available, though availability may vary by region and country.

Players can also continue gaming even when their PS5 console at home is powered off or being used by another account, which is a key advantage for those who travel frequently.

Redesigned Interface and New Features

The PlayStation Portal’s home screen has been completely redesigned with three tabs:

  • Remote Play: Connect to your paired PS5 console (no subscription required).
  • Cloud Streaming: Access and play compatible PS5 titles instantly without downloads.
  • Search: Quickly find streamable games, with QR codes linking to the PlayStation App for purchases.

Additional updates include:

  • 3D Audio Support for compatible games and headsets, including the Pulse Explore earbuds and Pulse Elite headset.
  • Passcode Lock and Network Status Screen for better device security and connection management.
  • In-Game Store Access, enabling digital purchases during streaming sessions.
  • Accessibility features include adjustable text and screen reader options.
  • Game Invitations, letting players join friends’ multiplayer sessions directly through the Quick Menu.

Available in Select Countries

The Cloud Streaming feature and new interface are currently available only to adult PlayStation Plus Premium members in eligible countries where the Premium tier is offered. These include the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and much of Europe, but not Singapore or most of Southeast Asia at this time.

Looking Ahead

Sony says it will continue refining the PlayStation Portal experience, citing “player feedback and enthusiasm” as key drivers for its evolution.

While the update isn’t yet available in all markets, it signals PlayStation’s growing investment in cloud-based gaming, aiming to make high-quality PS5 experiences more accessible beyond the console.
