Project TAL Revealed Exciting Next-Gen Korean Fantasy RPG Blends Myths & Monster Battles

WEMADE MAX Unveils Project TAL, a Mythic Korean Open World RPG

South Korean publisher WEMADE MAX and developer MADNGINE have officially announced Project TAL, an ambitious open-world action-RPG inspired by Korea’s traditional Tal masks and the ancient folklore behind them.

The game is currently in development for PC and consoles, with a global launch planned for 2027.

A New Take on Korean Mythology

In Project TAL, players will explore a vast, myth-infused world where the stories and symbols of traditional Korean culture are reimagined through a modern fantasy lens. The development team aims to create a AAA-level single-player experience that combines emotional storytelling with cinematic action and fast-paced combat.

The game’s announcement trailer showcases sprawling landscapes, towering monsters, and dynamic battles that highlight both the player’s agility and raw power. Combat emphasises vertical movement, with players able to leap onto massive creatures, strike weak points, and execute tactical counterattacks to turn the tide of battle.

Intelligent Companions Shape Every Encounter

A defining feature of Project TAL is its companion system, which introduces a cast of AI-driven allies that adapt dynamically to both the environment and the player’s fighting style. Companions aren’t passive followers: they’ll actively engage in combat, shielding players from enemy attacks, providing magical support, or setting up coordinated combo opportunities.

The trailer depicts moments of seamless cooperation, such as catching a companion mid-fall or combining attacks for devastating effects. Each companion also features a unique backstory, personality, and combat role — from defensive support to ranged or magical offence — designed to create both tactical variety and emotional depth.

Blending Emotion and Action

Speaking on the announcement, Sohn Myun-seok, CEO of WEMADE MAX, described the project as “an emotionally resonant story about healing a wounded world,” built around the exhilarating combat systems of a modern action RPG.

“With MADNGINE’s technical expertise and artistic vision, we’re creating a AAA open-world title built to compete on a global stage,” Sohn added, positioning Project TAL as one of South Korea’s most ambitious game projects to date.

Built for the Global Stage

Project TAL promises a full suite of modern action RPG features, including:

  • Monster Climbing Mechanics – Players can scale and attack colossal beasts in real time.
  • Weakness Exploit System – Identify and strike enemy weak points for tactical advantage.
  • Fluid Combat and Counters – Execute combos and counterattacks with precision timing.
  • Dynamic Companion Interactions – Experience AI-driven teamwork that changes with every battle.

With its blend of Korean mythology, high-fidelity visuals, and deeply reactive gameplay systems, Project TAL has the makings to be a standout entry in the next generation of open-world RPGs.
