Reigns: The Witcher Reimagines the Formula
The award-winning Reigns series is set to deliver one of its most ambitious crossovers yet with Reigns: The Witcher. Developed by Nerial and published by Devolver Digital in collaboration with CD Projekt Red, the game brings Geralt of Rivia into Reigns’ distinctive swipe-driven storytelling format.
The game is scheduled to launch on February 25 for PC and mobile platforms, expanding The Witcher universe through a format that prioritises choice, consequence, and narrative remixing over traditional combat.
Geralt’s Story, As Told by Dandelion
Rather than presenting Geralt’s journey in a straightforward heroic retelling, Reigns: The Witcher frames its narrative through the voice of Dandelion. As Geralt’s longtime companion and a famously unreliable narrator, Dandelion’s version of events is prone to embellishment, exaggeration, and the occasional outright reinvention.
Players step into the role of Geralt, navigating contracts, politics, relationships, and monster slaying through a series of left and right swipes. Each decision shapes Geralt’s reputation across the Continent, affecting how nobles, mages, villagers, and monsters respond in turn.
Choices That Ripple Across the Continent
True to the Reigns formula, every choice carries consequences. A single swipe can earn Geralt favour among the powerful, spark resentment among rival factions, or plunge him into unexpected danger. Requests that appear simple often unravel into layered dilemmas, reflecting the moral ambiguity that has long defined The Witcher series.
The game promises thousands of possible narrative combinations, ensuring that no two playthroughs unfold in quite the same way. This branching structure allows familiar Witcher scenarios to play out with wildly different outcomes depending on player decisions.
Along the way, players will encounter well-known characters from The Witcher universe, including Yennefer, Triss, Vesemir, and other allies and adversaries. However, with Dandelion framing the story, even routine encounters can spiral into legendary feats or spectacular mishaps.
This playful reinterpretation allows Reigns: The Witcher to balance reverence for established lore with a lighter, more self-aware tone, offering long-time fans a fresh perspective on familiar relationships.
Combat, Songs, and Side Stories

While Reigns: The Witcher focuses primarily on narrative choice, it does not abandon Geralt’s profession entirely. Combat minigames see the White Wolf facing off against ghouls, rotfiends, and other creatures, some of which may be slightly more dramatic than reality would suggest.
Beyond monster contracts, players can also expand Dandelion’s ever-growing songbook. By performing tales across taverns and villages, players shape how Geralt’s legend is remembered, adding another layer to the game’s meta-narrative about mythmaking and reputation.
A New Take on a Familiar Hero
Reigns: The Witcher is both a celebration and a reinterpretation of one of gaming’s most iconic protagonists. By filtering Geralt’s life through swipe-based decisions and a bard’s unreliable memory, the game offers a blend of humour, consequence, and narrative experimentation that fits naturally within the Reigns lineage.
