Capcom Shuts Down Resident Evil Requiem Rumours
Fan Theories Spark After Trailer Reveal
The reveal of Capcom‘s Resident Evil Requiem has quickly led to a surge of rumours and speculation, centred on a mysterious black-hooded figure glimpsed briefly in trailers.
With little information provided, fans began theorising about the character’s identity, suggesting he could be returning icons such as Albert Wesker, Ethan Winters, or even Chris Redfield in disguise.
Capcom’s Clarification
In a recent interview with The Gamer, director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masata Kumazawa confirmed that the hooded man is not a returning character, but a brand-new figure created for Requiem’s story.
Both stressed that the studio does not want to rely on recycling familiar faces as a marketing hook. Instead, their goal is to expand the franchise’s lore with original characters who can stand alongside Resident Evil’s long history of protagonists and villains.

On the Impact of Rumours
Nakanishi and Kumazawa also cautioned against fan speculation, noting that some players mistakenly treat theories as fact and end up disappointed when expectations are not met.
They clarified that Capcom has only shared what they intended to reveal and urged fans to remain patient for future updates. With the studio intent on building a fresh narrative, fans can expect new faces and storylines when the game arrives.
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
