Resident Evil Requiem has wasted no time in making history. On its first day of release, Capcom’s latest survival horror entry set a new franchise record for concurrent players on Steam.
According to data tracked by SteamDB, the game reached a peak of 267,509 simultaneous players, the highest number ever recorded for a Resident Evil title on Valve’s platform.
Surpassing Resident Evil 4
The previous franchise benchmark was held by the Resident Evil 4 Remake, which peaked at approximately 160,000 concurrent users. Requiem has comfortably surpassed that figure, signalling strong launch day momentum.
While Capcom has yet to disclose official global sales numbers, the Steam performance alone points to a highly successful debut.
Critical Praise and User Reception
Resident Evil Requiem entered the market with a strong critical reception, including SavePoint Gaming, where we shared that the game “sustains suffocating tension through Grace’s vulnerability and Leon’s disciplined firepower, delivering a strategic, replayable survival horror experience that feels just about right for the franchise.”
Other reviewers also praised its balance between the tight, methodical survival horror design reminiscent of Resident Evil 2 and the more aggressive, action-forward pacing associated with Resident Evil 4.
That positive sentiment appears to be mirrored by players. At the time of writing, 92% of user reviews on Steam are positive, granting the game a Very Positive rating.
Although comparable real-time data from consoles is not publicly available, the Steam numbers suggest significant cross-platform interest. Resident Evil Requiem is also available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S.
With a record-breaking PC launch and strong early reception, Resident Evil Requiem has everything it needs to be one of the franchise’s most successful openings to date.
