Resident Evil Requiem Finally Reveals Gunplay — and Confirms the Return of Zombies
As its early 2026 launch edges closer, Capcom has remained notably cautious with information surrounding Resident Evil Requiem, keeping trailers brief and details vague.
The secrecy has done little to dampen anticipation. If anything, it has amplified the community’s appetite for new material and fuelled speculation about the direction of the next mainline entry.
First Confirmation of Grace’s Combat Abilities
One of the most persistent debates focused on whether Grace, the game’s new protagonist, would be capable of defending herself. Early teasers portrayed her as an ordinary civilian with no combat background, raising concerns that Requiem might be structured around avoidance rather than confrontation.
Capcom insisted otherwise, assuring fans that Grace would wield firearms despite her grounded, non-military background. Now, that claim has been visualised.
In a segment aired by Japanese broadcaster NHK, the studio showcased the first gameplay of Grace handling and firing a gun from an over-the-shoulder perspective. The aiming system aligns closely with recent Resident Evil titles, offering a responsive, modern style of third-person combat.
Classic Zombies Make a Full Return
Beyond confirming Grace’s ability to fight, the footage highlights another significant reveal. The enemies shown in the clip bear the unmistakable characteristics of classic Resident Evil zombies, marking the series’ full return to its most iconic monsters after two entries that centred on more experimental threats.
This choice reinforces a tonal shift that Capcom has hinted at since Resident Evil Requiem’s announcement. The development team repeatedly compared the game’s atmosphere and pacing to Resident Evil 2 Remake, and this short footage appears to validate those comparisons.
Building Toward a February Release
Although the snippet is brief, it represents the most substantial look at Resident Evil Requiem to date. With gunplay confirmed, zombies officially back, and an unmistakably grounded tone, expectations are rising for what Capcom is shaping into a major reset for the franchise’s modern era.
Resident Evil Requiem launches February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Further reveals are expected in the months ahead as Capcom begins to lift the veil on its next horror showcase.
