Clean Up Nuevo-Tokyo With Blood in Roguelike Mexican Ninja

Unleash Retro Beat Em’ up Fury in Roguelike Mexican Ninja

The roguelike invasion of gaming is a trend that will likely never go away, and there’s no denying that when done right, it provides players with an almost never-ending cycle of fun. That’s what Mexican Ninja is aiming for, as Madbricks, Amber, and REDRUM are putting together a retro 2.5D beat ’em up roguelike that will arrive in early 2026.

Inviting players to Nuevo-Tokyo, this is an era where the dangerous Narcos from Mexico have joined forces with the menacing Yakuza in Japan. Forming the new faction of the Narkuzas, chaos reigns as the criminals do what they want, when they want, with seemingly no hope for the people.

Enter a group of rebels plotting to overthrow the regime by taking out the five heads of the Narkuza clan, and that’s where the titular Mexican Ninja comes into play. A tale of righteous vengeance is always a good excuse to unleash mayhem, and based on the announcement trailer, we are in for a bloody good time.

What is Mexican Ninja?

Already looking like a competent side-scrolling brawler, precise movement, positioning, and timing are key to the combat in Mexican Ninja. While you can certainly jump in and have a good time, the developers did share that proper mastery will reveal more depth that true masters can exploit.

As a roguelike, every new run will be different as levels are randomised, enemies mixed up, and your choice of weapons rotates. Along the way, learn new ninja skills, tap into the powers of Mexican-Japanese spirits, or use ninja Mexican Jutsus to give yourself the upper hand. If the game can deliver in terms of builds and possibilities, then half the battle is already won.

“I couldn’t be prouder of what the whole Amber team has helped us build and bring to life through this game. In my culture, the idea of a hero rising up has always been needed. Indeed it still is! And Mexican Ninja has always been about the longing for that idea,” explained franchise writer and director Carlos Rincones.

“Having profound admiration for Japanese culture, its history, and its roots, it naturally seemed like the perfect one to blend and contrast with my own. I hope players can join the fun, explore the world, and embrace all the quirks of this concept. Here’s hoping they persevere through getting their asses kicked again and again—and through this dynamic, understand that Mexican Ninja is more than a game; it’s a vibe, a spirit, a way of being. I wish you a good journey in finding your inner donkey!”

Mexican Ninja is slated for an early 2026 release on PC.
