Scott Pilgrim EX Brings Beat ’Em Up Chaos Back to Toronto This March

Scott Pilgrim EX Gets Its Release Date

Tribute Games has confirmed that Scott Pilgrim EX will launch digitally on March 3 for PC and consoles. The announcement came alongside a new release date trailer, which also introduced two additional playable characters joining the game’s growing roster.

Developed in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, Scott Pilgrim EX marks a brand-new beat ’em up entry in the franchise, expanding its universe with fresh mechanics, characters, and an original storyline.

Matthew Patel and Robot-01 Join the Fight

The latest trailer confirms the addition of two former antagonists as playable fighters. Matthew Patel, a founding member of the League of Evil Exes, brings theatrical flair and supernatural chaos to combat. His moveset focuses on battlefield control, using summoned demon hipsters, flame-based attacks, and ritualistic abilities to disrupt enemy formations and create openings for allies.

Joining him is Robot-01, a mechanical enforcer built by the Katayanagi Twins. Designed for speed and destruction, Robot-01 specialises in high-mobility attacks, long-range firepower, and explosive crowd-clearing abilities. The character’s mid-combat transformations and projectile-heavy kit position it as one of the most aggressive fighters revealed so far.

A Familiar City, Reimagined for a New Brawl

Scott Pilgrim EX once again throws players into a stylised, video game-infused version of Toronto. The story kicks off when members of Sex Bob-omb are kidnapped and their instruments stolen, plunging the city into chaos.

Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, and a group of unlikely allies must fight their way across streets, beaches, and even through time itself to save the band and the city. At launch, the game will feature seven playable fighters, with one final character still set to be revealed ahead of release.

Classic Beat ’Em Up Action With Modern Twists

True to Tribute Games’ pedigree, Scott Pilgrim EX leans heavily into classic beat ’em up foundations while layering in modern systems like MARVEL Cosmic Invasion. Each character comes with a unique, upgradable moveset, allowing players to tailor combat styles over time. Environmental interaction also plays a major role, with everyday objects and bizarre weapons alike usable in fights, from baseball bats to demonic artefacts.

The game features a brand-new narrative co-written by Bryan Lee O’Malley, ensuring continuity with the tone and humour of the original series. Music is once again handled by Anamanaguchi, returning to deliver an all-new soundtrack for the franchise.

Scott Pilgrim EX will launch digitally on March 3 for PC and consoles. Physical editions have also been confirmed, with more details to be shared at a later date. With its mix of nostalgia, new characters, and a fresh storyline, fans should be on the lookput for one of the most anticipated beat ’em ups of early 2026.
