Sifu Developer Sloclap’s Football REMATCH Launching in June

Sifu Developer Sloclap's Football Rematch Launching June 2025

After crafting one of the more well-received martial arts games in recent memory with Sifu, more eyes became fixed on what developer Sloclap would tackle next. Of all the possibilities, few could have predicted the studio would pivot toward sports. But not just any sport, Sloclap is diving into football with their upcoming title, REMATCH.

And you won’t have to wait too long to lace up those boots and start playing, as Sloclap has confirmed that REMATCH will launch on June 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Those interested in jumping in early can sign up for the upcoming closed beta, set to kick off on April 18.

Though it shares the same foundation as traditional football, REMATCH is far from the typical sports sim offered by the likes of EA’s EA Sports FC or Konami’s eFootball. The more accurate comparison would be to something like Rocket League. In this game, players control a single player rather than an entire team, participating in fast-paced 5v5 matches from a third-person perspective.

Sloclap is stripping away the standard rules that fans of the sport are familiar with. There will be no offside calls or fouls, and gameplay flows continuously from start to finish. The aim is to deliver a thrilling, action-packed experience emphasising mechanical mastery and player skill.

Adding to its unique identity, REMATCH won’t include character stats or progression systems. All characters are designed to be mechanically equal, meaning every win or loss hinges purely on the player’s ability and team coordination. There’s no single-player mode either, with the game built from the ground up as a competitive online multiplayer experience. With its unconventional approach to the world’s most popular sport, REMATCH could reshape expectations for what a football game can be.

REMATCH will launch on June 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
