SOL Shogunate Reveals Its Samurai Space Opera at PC Gaming Show
A Samurai Epic Reimagined Across the Solar System
Unveiled during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted 2025, SOL Shogunate is the debut project from Chaos Manufacturing and one of the showcase’s most striking premieres.
Described as a “samurai space opera”, the single-player third-person action RPG transports players into an alternate future where humanity has expanded across the solar system under the rule of a powerful shogunate. This astro-feudal society blends neon-lit futurism with traditional Japanese aesthetics, creating a world where space elevators, gleaming lunar metropolises, and the way of the sword coexist in uneasy harmony.
Players take on the role of Yuzuki, the last surviving heir of a once-powerful samurai family massacred by a rival clan. Now an outlaw ronin, she journeys across the Moon’s districts, each inspired by iconic periods in Japanese history, as she seeks vengeance and uncovers the buried secrets of a long-forgotten war.
The developers frame Yuzuki’s journey as both a personal tale of retribution and a narrative about dismantling the shogunate’s tightly held dominion over the solar system. The reveal trailer highlights the game’s striking tone: a mix of sleek sci-fi architecture, dynamic combat, and atmospheric storytelling layered with visually rich worldbuilding.
From artificial-gravity cities to lunar wastelands traversed by mechanised steeds, SOL Shogunate’s setting aims to give players a fresh, stylised vision of the Moon unlike anything typically seen in sci-fi.
Combat Focused on Precision, Evolution, and Musical Spectacle
Chaos Manufacturing positions SOL Shogunate as a combat-first experience where players can choose between multiple weapon types, each featuring unique fighting styles and attack patterns. The action emphasises speed, precision, and the kind of fluid duel-focused intensity associated with samurai fiction.
Beyond traditional blades, players can infuse weapons with elemental effects, transforming each encounter into a tactical puzzle of weaknesses and counters. Yuzuki can also augment her own biology using “gene splices”, shaping her abilities from enhanced perception to reinforced skin to match distinct playstyles.

Boss encounters are presented as cinematic centrepieces. These multiphase battles scale in spectacle through dynamic music systems that evolve in real time with combat intensity. Chaos Manufacturing has partnered with recording artists including Japanese rock band AliA (アリア), with more contributors to be announced.
The studio describes each major fight as a fusion of choreography, visual drama, and music, designed to feel like a violent performance where every strike is punctuated by an emotional beat.
A Distant Release, but a Bold Debut for Chaos Manufacturing
SOL Shogunate is early in development, with a planned release window of 2027. The studio emphasises that the game will launch “once it’s ready”, focusing on refining systems and ensuring the thematic and mechanical ambitions align. While details on additional platforms have not been confirmed, the game is currently announced for PC via Steam, where players can already wishlist the title.

For Chaos Manufacturing, a newly formed independent studio, SOL Shogunate represents a significant first step. Its debut blends genre experimentation with clear reverence for samurai cinema and Japanese history, reframed through a sleek science-fiction lens. Though still years away, its unveiling positions it as one of the more distinctive long-term action RPG projects to watch.
With a universe shaped by blade, blood, and celestial power, SOL Shogunate now takes its first public step, introducing a world where the solar system is ruled by steel, honour, and the shogunate that binds them.
