Square Enix Shares New Kingdom Hearts Iv Screenshots, Development Still Active

Refusing to stop or conclude its grand tale, Tetsuya Nomura‘s decision to continue the Kingdom Hearts saga beyond the third game is a decision welcomed by fans. Although a teaser has existed for years for Kingdom Hearts IV, fresh information has been sparse. Obviously, Square Enix is well aware of the community’s longing for updates and has finally delivered something new.

This comes after the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, the mobile game that once promised to incorporate GPS gimmicks to blend real-world locations with the game universe. Assuring fans that the unique franchise is still well and alive is definitely a smart move.

For a start, Kingdom Hearts IV has been confirmed to still be in active development, not just lingering in development hell. To prove this and to bring some peace of mind to fans, Square Enix recently shared a collection of new screenshots, stitched together into one large image.

Most of the screenshots continue to showcase the city inspired by Tokyo – Quadratum – which was first revealed in the initial teaser. While the setting remains familiar, there are still some noteworthy revelations. One screenshot reveals a new Heartless enemy that curiously resembles Sora himself, while a smaller image on the right hints at Mickey Mouse as a playable character, complete with a user interface that suggests active gameplay.

Square Enix has also reassured fans that development on Kingdom Hearts IV is progressing steadily. The company emphasised its commitment to delivering an experience that will meet fans’ high expectations. They acknowledge the community’s impatience and are working hard to ensure the final product is worth the wait.

Unfortunately, these new screenshots were not accompanied by any further details about the game’s release plans. Square Enix also did not commit to a specific timeline for when more updates, be it new screenshots or trailers, platforms, or release date, would be revealed. The wait continues.
