Neil Newbon to Direct as First Crew Revealed

Epictellers Entertainment and publisher Paizo have unveiled the first details for Starfinder: Afterlight, the upcoming turn-based sci-fi RPG based on the Starfinder tabletop universe. Alongside revealing the game’s first companions — Tycho and Kole — the studio confirmed that award-winning actor Neil Newbon (Baldur’s Gate 3, Resident Evil Village) will serve as the game’s voice director.

The news arrives ahead of the game’s Kickstarter campaign this October, with Starfinder: Afterlight set to release next year in Early Access on PC via Steam.

Companions with Depth

The first playable companions set the tone for Afterlight’s character-driven storytelling. Kole, a Soldier, abandoned his military roots to pursue dreams of becoming an action star. Tycho, an Operative, is a brilliant inventor shaped by a past of betrayal, leaving him wary of trust.

Epictellers emphasise that Starfinder: Afterlight is more than stat sheets and combat roles: it is about forging bonds with companions who carry layered backstories and unique perspectives.

Neil Newbon’s Role

As voice director, Newbon will oversee every step of the game’s voice performance, from casting through final delivery, ensuring consistency with the studio’s creative vision. Two actors are already confirmed: Inel Tomlinson (Dragon Age, Final Fantasy XVI) as Tycho, and Fred Tatasciore (Mass Effect, Overwatch) as Kole.

Newbon’s involvement builds excitement for fans, given his recent acclaim for performances in narrative-heavy titles.

Story and Setting

Starfinder: Afterlight is set within the Starfinder TTRPG universe, adapted from the Second Edition ruleset. Players take on the role of a space crew member stranded after their captain’s disappearance. To prevent galactic annihilation, they must recruit a band of unconventional allies, face off against enemies wielding both advanced technology and mystical powers, and ultimately decide the fate of the stars.

With a Kickstarter campaign launching in October and Early Access release slated for 2026, Starfinder: Afterlight positions itself as a must-watch title for fans of story-rich, tactical RPGs.
