Summer Game Fest - Rhythm Roguelite Ratatan Hits Early Access This July

Music and video games are always a great pairing, and when you can incorporate that into the actual gameplay itself, there is always the possibility of magical awesomeness. Many gamers in the 2000s enjoyed just that with the Patapon series, and now, its spiritual successor has finally arrived. Ratata Arts has shared that Ratatan, its rhythm roguelite action game, will launch in Early Access on Steam starting July 25.

First announced in 2023, followed by a record-breaking Kickstarter funding drive, the game will finally be in the hands of eager players later this year, as revealed at Summer Game Fest. Alongside the good news, the first-ever demo is also now live for all to play.

If you have no idea how such a game works, it’s pretty easy to grasp. Players will need to follow the beat and use rhythm commands in time to help their Cobun army execute different actions. This can be marching forward, adopting defensive positions, or attacking with ferocity. Keep it up, and you can unleash Fever Mode, where everything gets pumped up and your Cobun army becomes even more powerful.

Your job is to help the Cobun journey to The Everafter and meet the legendary Goddess that is said to await there. With hope in their hearts and the sound of music in their ears, you will be the key to make that dream happen.

For the demo, players can try out the early parts of Ratatan with four distinct characters to make up their army. As you make your way from World 1, Pirates of the Parabbean to World 2, Yeehawler Mountain, you can do so either on your own or through online co-op, which supports up to four players.

In addition to its gameplay and music, the game’s visuals also stand out. The 2D animation delivers plenty of eye-catching visuals, while the personality of the various creatures also shines through. More about Ratatan will be shown off in the next few days, so be sure to keep an eye out.

Ratatan hits Steam Early Access this July 25.
