abxylute Provides New Alternatives for Switch 2 Handheld Play
As the Nintendo Switch 2 pushes deeper into hybrid territory, accessory makers are already targeting one of its most discussed use cases: extended handheld sessions.
abxylute has unveiled two deck-style controllers, the N6 and N9C, designed specifically for Nintendo Switch 2. Rather than relying on compact split controllers, both models attach directly to the console via USB-C, creating a unified, full-grip handheld form factor that mirrors the feel of a traditional console gamepad.
For players who find standard portable configurations cramped during long sessions, this aims to offer a more stable, ergonomic alternative.
N6 Focuses on Long-Session Comfort
The abxylute N6 model emphasises full-size ergonomics, with extended grips that help reduce wrist strain during prolonged play. It integrates Hall effect joysticks to minimise drift over time and increase durability.
Built-in 9-axis motion control ensures compatibility with Switch 2 gyro-supported titles, while programmable rear buttons and macro support add flexibility for competitive or action-heavy games.
Because the controller connects directly via USB-C and contains no internal battery, it eliminates the need for pairing and charging steps. Players can continue playing while the console itself charges. For portable-focused players who treat the Switch 2 as their primary platform, the N6 offers a more console-like handheld setup.

N9C Leans Into Nostalgia and Mechanical Precision
The abxylute N9C takes a different approach. Inspired by the Nintendo GameCube controller layout, it features an asymmetrical button layout to reinforce muscle memory.
Unlike N6’s rubber membrane buttons, N9C uses mechanical micro-switch inputs for ABXY and triggers, prioritising crisp actuation and fast response. It also features capacitive joysticks with adjustable actuation and swappable gate rings, allowing players to tailor the feel for fighting games, platformers or action titles.
Four rear buttons expand control options, and an integrated rear stand supports tabletop play without additional accessories.
A Pro-Style Handheld Experience
Both controllers support core Switch 2 features, including motion control, vibration and system-level inputs. The goal is to bring the feature set typically associated with a Pro Controller into a portable deck-style format.
N6 and N9C are still in development, with interested players able to snag early backer pricing ahead of wider retail availability via Kickstarter.
For players seeking a more substantial grip and pro-grade input options while gaming on the move, abxylute’s latest controllers present a clear alternative to the standard Switch 2 handheld configuration.
