Tencent invests in Unrecord, the hyper-realistic bodycam FPS, pushing the viral shooter into full production.

Unrecord Enters Full Production as Tencent Joins as Investor

Viral Debut Still Looms Large

When Unrecord first appeared online in 2023, it did not just turn heads; it genuinely confused people. The Unreal Engine-powered bodycam shooter from French indie studio Drama Studios spread rapidly across social media, with many viewers mistaking its footage for real police bodycam recordings rather than gameplay.

The game’s hyper-realistic lighting, motion, and camera perspective blurred the line between fiction and reality in a way few shooters ever had.

After that explosive debut, however, Unrecord largely disappeared from public view, with only sparse updates surfacing over the following two years. That silence has now ended.

Tencent Investment Powers Project

Drama Studios has confirmed that Tencent has officially joined Unrecord as an investor, marking a major turning point for the project. While financial details were not disclosed, the studio stated that the funding allows the game to move into full-scale production for the first time.

The investment also enables Drama Studios to expand its development team, transitioning from a small indie operation into a more structured production environment. For a project previously developed with limited resources, this represents a significant leap forward.

More Than Just Visual Realism

Alongside the funding announcement, Drama Studios reiterated that Unrecord is not intended to be a technical showcase alone. While realism remains a core pillar, the team confirmed the game will feature a narrative-driven experience that complements its grounded presentation.

The studio also revealed plans to begin sharing regular development updates starting in 2026, offering players clearer insight into gameplay systems, storytelling direction, and overall scope as production ramps up.

In a supporting statement, Tencent Games vice president Mark Maslowicz praised Drama Studios’ progress, noting the scale of the team’s achievements given limited manpower. He described the game as a project with strong creative momentum, signalling confidence in both the concept and the studio behind it.

Despite the renewed momentum, Unrecord still does not have a confirmed release window. The game remains planned for PC, with no additional platforms announced at this stage.
