Toshihiro Nagoshi’s First Post-Yakuza Project Confirmed as Gang of Dragon
Nagoshi’s First Major Project Since Leaving SEGA
When Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator behind Yakuza/Like a Dragon, departed SEGA and RGG Studio in 2021, fans were eager to see what direction he would take next. After joining NetEase Games and forming Nagoshi Studio, anticipation has steadily grown around his debut project. That wait ended at The Game Awards 2025, where Nagoshi officially presented his new title: Gang of Dragon.
The reveal immediately struck a familiar tone. Cinematic framing, neon-soaked urban districts and character-centric drama all echo Nagoshi’s signature style. Yet the game charts its own path, positioning itself as a story-driven action title set in a dramatic reimagining of Shinjuku’s Kabukicho.
Don Lee Stars as Shin Ji-seong in a New Crime Saga
Gang of Dragon features celebrated South Korean actor Ma Dong-seok (Don Lee) in the lead role. Players assume the identity of Shin Ji-seong, a commanding figure within a Korean crime organisation operating in Kabukicho.
True to Don Lee’s screen persona, Shin is portrayed as a physically imposing enforcer. However, the reveal trailer suggests a narrative that quickly escalates into a larger and more perilous conflict.
The trailer showcases Shin navigating the district’s nightlife, confronting rival gangs and stepping into a tangled web of power struggles that define the city’s underworld. The tone leans heavily into dramatic storytelling that mirrors Nagoshi’s earlier work, while also presenting a fresh cultural perspective.
Expanded Action Gameplay With Firearms and Vehicles
One of the most notable departures from the Yakuza formula is the integration of firearms. Gang of Dragon introduces pistols, shotguns and even a Gatling gun as part of Shin’s arsenal. Combat appears faster and more explosive, blending melee clashes with ranged firefights in a way that suggests a broader action identity for the studio.

The trailer also teases vehicular sequences across the city, hinting at a more varied mix of mission types and set pieces. While full gameplay details are yet to be revealed, the footage indicates a shift toward cinematic, large-scale action that pushes beyond Nagoshi’s traditional design framework.
Gang of Dragon is currently announced for PC, with no confirmation yet regarding consoles or release timing. Even with limited information, excitement across the community is already high, driven by Nagoshi’s legacy and the strong stylistic identity on display.
