It feels almost paradoxical for a company to be standing atop a treasure trove of intellectual properties, yet grappling with financial difficulties. That’s the unusual situation Ubisoft currently finds itself in. The company has faced underwhelming performances from several high-profile releases, including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws, both of which fell short of sales expectations. Despite these setbacks, Ubisoft remains committed to its core franchises, and for fans of military shooters, there’s a familiar name making a return: Ghost Recon.
Following the mixed receptions of Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint, many speculated that Ubisoft might put the franchise on indefinite hold. However, the publisher appears to retain belief in the brand’s potential. In a recent Q&A session with investors, Ubisoft CFO Frédérick Duguet confirmed that a new Ghost Recon title is currently in development.
What’s particularly surprising is the direction the franchise is taking. According to Duguet, the upcoming entry is being developed as a first-person shooter, a significant departure from the third-person perspective that has defined the series since its inception. This marks a bold shift in design philosophy and could signal a major reinvention for the brand.
What Would a New Ghost Recon Game Look Like?

Ubisoft later confirmed Duguet’s statement in a comment to GameFile, reiterating that Ghost Recon remains a “valuable and important brand” for the company. While they stopped short of explicitly addressing the switch to a first-person perspective, they promised to share more details when the time is right.
This isn’t the first time Ubisoft has attempted to refresh the series’ formula. In the past, the company announced a live-service title called Ghost Recon Frontline, which was eventually cancelled following negative feedback.
With a new Ghost Recon game now officially in the works, and with such a dramatic change in gameplay perspective, fans and critics alike will be watching closely to see how this beloved tactical shooter evolves in its next chapter.
