When it comes to firsts, there aren’t that many opportunities to do so in the gaming world. But for SEGA, the Japanese company, one such venture has come to pass. SEGA Store Shanghai, the world’s first official SEGA store, will open its doors in Shanghai this May 1.
Located inside the Bailian ZX shopping mall in the centre of the bustling city, what was once a pop-up concept is now an actual permanent retail experience awaiting fans. Previously, between January 25 and March 15, fans could visit the pop-up store to purchase merchandise and check out everything SEGA had to offer. Now, they no longer have to worry about missing out, thanks to this move that will materialise in just two months’ time.

The SEGA Store Shanghai promises an immersive in-store experience driven by the SEGA and Atlus brands, featuring original local merchandise, a game demo section, and a host of upcoming events to keep customers busy and engaged. There will also be content designed with local flair to increase the relevancy for consumers visiting or staying in Shanghai.
How the actual store will look like remains a mystery, although the pop-up concept will likely serve as inspiration for the team to build on as the first official store for the Japanese brand. It will also be interesting to see just what events will be held at SEGA Store Shanghai, and if this opening is just the beginning of more global efforts to expand the company’s reach.
SEGA did promise to “look into new ways of making content more accessible to fans around the globe” in a press release, so that’s something for all fans to look out for in the future.
