Wuthering Waves Age Rating Rises to 16+ With ‘Partial Nudity’ Cited

Wuthering Waves Age Rating Rises from 12+ to 16+

Whether you’re a fan of gacha games or not, it’s hard to deny the rising popularity of Kuro GamesWuthering Waves. This action RPG, known for its intense combat and visually striking design, has quickly cemented itself as one of the most prominent gacha titles in the current market. However, its commitment to delivering eye-catching character designs seems to have come with an inevitable consequence.

The undeniable sensuality in the design of its female characters has seen a noticeable increase, especially with the recent debut of a new banner character – Cantarella. So provocative is her design that her introductory trailer was reportedly banned from the official Wuthering Waves Discord server due to its content.

Although the developers have not issued a detailed statement, the release of Cantarella and several other newly introduced characters in the latest update appears to have pushed the game beyond the 12+ rating threshold.

As a result, a formal change has now taken place. Wuthering Waves has officially seen its age rating rise to 16+ on two major platforms – Google Play and the PlayStation Store. The new rating explicitly cites “partial nudity” as one of the content descriptors. Interestingly, the iOS version of the game still retains its original 12+ rating, at least for now.

This shift in age classification naturally narrows the game’s potential market reach. Younger audiences who previously had access may now find themselves restricted. So far, Kuro Games has not issued any official comment regarding the update. However, judging by the visual direction of the game’s latest character banners, it appears the studio has no intention of slowing down its trend of designing visually outstanding female characters.

The shift in rating may also allow the creators to go in more mature directions for the storytelling, or even involving elements of violence or gore and the like. There will always be fans divided over a potential change in direction, but at least we are now aware of what could happen in the future.

Wuthering Waves is currently available on PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and PC.
