Xbox Games Showcase – Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Engages Futuristic Warfare in 2025

Returning with a Futuristic Warfare Theme, Black Ops 7 is Confirmed to Arrive in 2025.

It has become an almost inevitable tradition in the gaming industry to see a new Call of Duty title released at the end of each year, typically unveiled mid-year. Despite now being under new ownership, Activision Blizzard continues to follow this annual pattern. At the latest Xbox Games Showcase, we are now in the era of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

This marks a particularly unique moment in the franchise’s history. For the first time ever, two Black Ops titles are being released consecutively, with developer Treyarch once again leading the charge.

Black Ops 7 serves as a direct sequel to its predecessor, picking up 40 years after the events of the previous game. Set in the year 2035, the first teaser trailer hints at a return to futuristic warfare: a setting that was once a dominant trend in the first-person shooter genre. The footage showcases high-tech combat gear, advanced weaponry, and a grim new vision of global conflict.

Promising to reveal more details soon, Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will deliver a full Call of Duty experience. That means fans can expect the return of core modes such as multiplayer, the fan-favourite zombies mode, and a whole single-player campaign, which will also support co-op play for those who want to tackle missions with friends.

While the reasons behind Treyarch’s continued leadership on the series remain undisclosed, especially with Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games currently silent about their own projects, it’s clear that Treyarch remains central to the franchise’s evolution.

With a shift back to high-tech battlefields and a renewed focus on co-op storytelling, Black Ops 7 is shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated shooters.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to launch later in 2025 and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. In line with Microsoft’s Game Pass strategy, the game will also be accessible via Game Pass on day one.
