Ghost of Tsushima Beats Out God of War as Biggest PlayStation Single-Player PC Launch

Ghost of Tsushima Beats out God of War As Biggest Playstation Single-player Pc Launch

If PlayStation ever needed more reasons to consider porting its biggest console exclusives to the PC platform, the latest performance of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut should be a solid precursor of things to come.

The official numbers provided by Valve show Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut hit a peak concurrent player count of 77,154 on May 19. This beat out the all-time peak of 73,529 for God of War, which hit that high after launching on Steam two years ago. This sees the former surpass the latter as PlayStation’s biggest single-player game launch on PC/Steam ever.

This may come as a surprise, as Sony’s policy of requiring a PlayStation Network account to enjoy the game’s online multiplayer and the newly revealed PlayStation overlay has caused concern. Players in countries where the PlayStation Network doesn’t operate have no legitimate means of buying Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC.

That said, the biggest success is still reserved for the multiplayer juggernaut Helldivers 2. It is also the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, with over 12 million copies sold across PS5 and Steam in just 12 weeks.

The continued success of PlayStation titles on PC is a key part of the brand’s strategy to grow its gaming vertical. The acquisition of Nixxes Software in 2021 was seen as a positive move in this regard, and that studio has brought Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut to PC, much to the delight of Sucker Punch Productions.

“Your technical expertise has been invaluable in making our first-ever PC release a reality,” the studio stated. “We couldn’t possibly have asked for a better partner.”

Now that PC players have access to not just Ghost of Tsushima, but also the likes of God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man, the target now shifts towards the next big port. That could very well be God of War Ragnarok, while Souls fans will keep their fingers crossed for a port of Bloodborne.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is now available on PC and PlayStation 5.
